The 2026 South African Startup Awards have moved beyond the application phase. The deadline was noon on Friday 30 October, and public voting is scheduled for 2–6 November ahead of the awards ceremony in Cape Town on 18 November. For founders and observers, this is now a story about selection, visibility and the difference between commercial performance and popularity.
Organised by Startup Club ZA, the competition highlights young South African technology ventures across sectors such as AI, fintech, commerce, health, education, climate, logistics and deeptech. But an awards headline can easily create the wrong impression if readers assume that being nominated means receiving funding.
Who was eligible?
According to the published entry rules, applicants needed to be technology companies less than five years old, with majority presence in South Africa, at a pre-Series A stage and with a product already on the market. They also generally needed revenue or substantial user growth, with exemptions for certain deeptech entries.
