Saudi Scholarships: 28 October Deadline for Ghanaian Citizens Living in Ghana
The official notice gives 28 October 2026 as the deadline for Ghanaian citizens resident in Ghana. Review university terms and actual funding before applying.
The key points of this analysis, checked by the editors.
The Ghana Scholarships Authority lists 28 October 2026 as the closing date.
Applicants must be Ghanaian citizens residing in Ghana and hold a passport and birth certificate.
The notice does not specify one guaranteed fully funded package for every programme.
If you're a Ghanaian student hoping to study abroad, the most important detail in the latest Saudi scholarship notice is not the list of universities. It's the deadline: 28 October 2026.
The Ghana Scholarships Authority's official notice, published on 28 September 2026, invites applications for awards at selected Saudi universities. The notice is still marked open as checked on 26 October. It sends candidates to the Saudi government's Study in Saudi portal. But it does not spell out every cost the award would cover. That distinction can save applicants time and money.
Who can apply? The rule many posts miss
The Ghanaian notice requires candidates to be Ghanaian citizens residing in Ghana, hold a genuine birth certificate and have a passport. It is not an Africa-wide call. A student in Kumasi who is Ghanaian and resident in Ghana may meet those headline nationality conditions; a Cameroonian living in Douala does not meet this particular notice's stated criteria.
Eligibility does not equal admission. Applicants must also satisfy the relevant university and programme requirements, which can vary by level, field, language of instruction and institution. The notice does not establish one universal age limit, grade threshold or language test requirement, so do not invent one.
Which universities and courses are named?
The Authority lists Taif, Madinah, Najran, Tabuk, Jazan and Fahad Bin Sultan University. Fields mentioned include technology, technology management, engineering, medicine, education, architecture, business management, marketing and Islamic economics.
A field appearing in a notice is not proof that every named university offers a funded seat in that subject or at every study level. Applicants need to search for their exact course on the official Study in Saudi portal and read its individual entry requirements. A computer science applicant, for example, should verify the degree title, teaching language, start date and whether the relevant university is actually accepting applications.
A practical application sequence before 28 October
First, open the Ghana Scholarships Authority notice and save a copy of the eligibility wording and deadline. This is your reference if social media posts give conflicting instructions.
Second, prepare clear digital copies of your passport, birth certificate and academic records. The Ghanaian notice explicitly names the first two; transcripts, certificates, references or translations may be required by a specific university or programme. Check before paying to translate or certify documents.
Third, use Study in Saudi, not an agent's WhatsApp form. Create or complete your profile, identify the institution and programme, and check the scholarship category and application status. The Saudi portal says an applicant must complete their profile to apply.
Fourth, read the full terms before submitting. Record the deadline displayed in your account, the submission confirmation, and any follow-up request from the institution. The Ghanaian notice says 28 October but does not specify a cut-off hour or time zone. Do not assume you can safely submit at 11:59 p.m. Ghana time.
Finally, retain screenshots or a PDF of your confirmation and use only official channels for status checks.
Is this a fully funded scholarship?
The Ghanaian announcement does not establish a universal, itemised funding package. It calls the opportunities scholarships but does not specify, for every institution, the exact tuition coverage, monthly allowance, housing, flights, insurance or visa costs.
Those omissions matter. An award covering tuition alone may still leave a student unable to travel. Before accepting an offer, ask the institution or official scholarship administrator for written confirmation of tuition, living allowance, accommodation, health cover, travel, residence permits and any conditions for renewal.
A worked budgeting example shows why. Suppose a student has tuition covered but must pay for a flight, document authentication and initial housing. Their scholarship may be genuine and still require substantial upfront cash. This is an illustration, not a claim about this Saudi programme's actual terms.
What about applicants outside Ghana?
The Study in Saudi portal is a broader government platform. Students from Nigeria, Cameroon, Kenya or elsewhere may explore other programmes there, but they must not treat this Ghana-specific notice as proof of their eligibility. Nationality rules, institutional requirements and application windows must be checked separately.
For readers considering France or Erasmus Mundus as alternatives, compare not just advertised funding but the actual net cost, language requirements, recognition of qualifications, visa procedures and timing. A headline saying 'scholarship' is never a substitute for a written funding decision.
Five red flags before you send documents
Be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed selection, asking for payment to a personal mobile-money number, redirecting you away from official government domains, requesting your account password or claiming the deadline has been extended without an official notice. A legitimate programme can involve administrative costs, but every requested payment should be verifiable through the institution or government service.
Also protect your personal data: passports and birth certificates contain information that should not be circulated in public groups.
What is still unknown?
The notice does not provide a consolidated number of awards, award-by-award benefits, guaranteed admission, or a precise closing hour. We have not tested a completed application or obtained an individual offer. Those are open questions, not details to fill with assumptions.
Bottom line: eligible Ghanaian residents have a short window to investigate and apply by 28 October 2026. Start with the official notice, verify your exact programme and funding terms, and submit through the government portal rather than a middleman.
