> The Kenyan platform promises revision grounded in your course material. Test the references, the handling of missing information and what you can explain afterwards.

## Key takeaways

- StudyLabAI advertises revision tools built around students’ uploaded course material.
- A displayed reference needs checking against the source; it does not establish correctness on its own.
- The suggested protocol assesses a specific use and is neither a completed product test nor evidence of better grades.

An AI tutor summarises your notes in seconds. Can it cite the right passage, admit when the material contains no answer and help you respond without looking? Those are three practical checks to run before subscribing.

StudyLabAI, a Kenyan platform profiled by Disrupt Africa on October 23, 2026, proposes turning study materials into revision tools. This article offers a test protocol, not the results of an independent StudyLabAI product trial.

## What the platform advertises

The website describes document uploads, quizzes, flashcards, notes and audio or video explanations. It says tutor responses point back to the relevant slide or recording timestamp.

That advertised behaviour offers a way to check answers. It does not establish that every reference is accurate or every response faithful to the course.

We have not performed the assessment. The following process is a suggested reader protocol, rather than a report of test results.

## First check: does the cited passage support the answer?

Choose a short chapter you already understand and have permission to upload. Before using the tool, note expected answers covering a definition, a condition, an exception and an important piece of reasoning.

Ask for explanations, then open each cited passage. Check both whether the reference leads to the correct location and whether the text supports the conclusion.

A reference can exist without justifying an answer. A fluent explanation can also remove a qualification that changes the course material’s meaning.

Record discrepancies. Ten verified responses can illuminate this chapter, but they cannot establish a general reliability score for the product.

## Second check: what happens when the course has no answer?

Ask a question the document does not answer. Specify that you want to know what the material establishes, then see whether the tool distinguishes retrieved information from an added explanation.

The purpose is to understand its response to a limit. Outside knowledge, if provided, should be identifiable and checked separately. It should not appear to be something the lecturer said.

A table, formula or ambiguous passage offers another useful check of what survived the import. If you work in both French and English, assess the material in each language used.

## Third check: can you explain without looking?

After a session, close the summary and try new questions. Explain the reasoning aloud, then compare your answer with the original material.

This assesses what the tool helps you do. Did it clarify a difficulty, create useful practice or mainly add more files to consult?

Include time spent checking and correcting outputs. Fast generation can be valuable, but the relevant result is a reliable and useful revision resource.

An individual protocol does not establish that an application improves grades. That would require an appropriate study. It offers a practical basis for deciding whether this use belongs in your revision routine.

## Include limits and connectivity in the budget

StudyLabAI advertises a free start without a payment card. That could allow assessment of an initial document before subscribing.

Check the actual account offer: included imports, generation limits, audio and video conditions, billing and cancellation. This article establishes no Cameroonian price.

Also consider connectivity. Uploading multiple files and viewing video may use data differently from reading a short text. We measured no local usage; your own session provides the relevant observation.

## Uploading course material is still a decision

A document may contain personal information, unpublished work or recordings of people who have not authorised sharing. Select what to transmit and check applicable conditions.

Institutions should also examine access rights, retention, exports and deletion. Marketing material cannot replace that review.

An AI tutor earns its place when the student can take control: locate the source, explain an answer and recognise what remains unclear. That is the useful challenge for StudyLabAI, one chapter at a time.

An AI tutor is useful when a student can verify a reference, recognise a fabricated answer and explain a chapter without the screen. Run those three checks on the same course material, compare the outcome with your usual study method and review document-retention terms before paying. We have not carried out that product test ourselves.
